Anonymous‘s Rating: 1.9/5
Anonymous travelling as: Family with young children

Bad Stuff: cups and mugs to small. got locked out from the inside door coming back in. hotel bar closes to early

Good Stuff: The duvet was very warm to keep the winter chill off,

Anonymous‘s Rating: 2.7/5
Anonymous travelling as: Same sex couple

Overall: Overall it was acceptable, but I would stay at a smaller more friendly hotel next time.

Bad Stuff: There were a lot of stairs and housekeeping was infrequent, I'm used to more engaging hosts at most small hotels.

Good Stuff: A nice breakfast area and guest lounge.

Philip‘s Rating: 4.3/5
Philip travelling as: Young couple

Overall: Excellent, extremely welcoming staff, my first enquiry if I were to stay in Edinburgh again.

Bad Stuff: Fortunately we were spending the evening out as the 21st party hosted by the hotel was, by all accounts, very loud.

Good Stuff: Excellent service, especially during check in. Extremely forthcoming to help with finding restaurants and places to visit. Due to allergies, a non-feather duvet was found at extremely short notice. Breakfast was busy but an enjoyable, relaxing setting.

Donald‘s Rating: 2.1/5
Donald travelling as: Solo leisure traveller

Bad Stuff: Electrical/TV apparatus inconvenient to use-tele perched on inadequate shelf & not capable of being viewed from bed

Gloria‘s Rating: 4.1/5
Gloria travelling as: Family with older children

Overall: The hotel was in a good area of Edinburgh, within walking distance 30 minutes of the city or by bus from outside the hotel. There wasn't anything we didn't know before we stayed there, very good Dinners!

Bad Stuff: Nothing

Good Stuff: We were like a part of their family

Johan‘s Rating: 5.0/5
Johan travelling as: Mature couple

Overall: I can't find any critical points that really should be different. We were satisfied and had a very pleasant staying there.

Bad Stuff: Better signs for the parking area. More information about the public transport routes.

Good Stuff: The combinition of hotel and personal contact with the staff.

Dean‘s Rating: 4.7/5
Dean travelling as: Mature couple

Overall: Was well informed on all aspects.

Bad Stuff: A quick lick of paint here and there, not much more.

Good Stuff: Comfortable, clean, everything well laid out.

Steven‘s Rating: 5.0/5
Steven travelling as: Solo leisure traveller

Overall: All i can say is that i really enjoyed my stay there, the owners and staff as i said were very accommodating and made one feel very welcome. The atmosphere was very casual and friendly. All my earlier enquiries were answered and new what to expect when arriving at the hotel. So basically if one has any queries my best advice would be to call the hotel before arriving for the answers, in that way there are no surprises.

Bad Stuff: Was quite happy with everything they had to offer.

Good Stuff: Owners made one feel very welcome, nothing was too much of an effort. Gave plenty of advice of where to go and what to see.

Michael‘s Rating: 4.7/5
Michael travelling as: Solo business traveller

Overall: I stayed for a week on business, keeping irregular hours. Early morning were no problem (the proprietors booked me reliable cabs) and they re-opened the bar for me when I came back exhausted one evening after 11.30pm. There is a restaurant serving great Scottish breakfasts and a limited selection of evening meals, aided by the fact that the owner was trained as a chef (and clearly got the hang of it!) If you like staying in anonymous chain hotels like Best Western or Ramada you'll probably not like this hotel. But if you like a personal and friendly reception you'll love it.

Bad Stuff: Current owners have only had the hotel since January 2005 and they are constantly improving facilities. I found nothing to complain about - US visitors might have a problem with shower pressures - but it's already up to a good standard for a family hotel.

Good Stuff: It's a very friendly place - small enough (26 rooms?) to have personal service but big enough to not feel over-fussed. Loads of buses call at the bus stop opposite which means you'll be in the centre of Edinburgh in less than ten minutes for less than a pound.
